No cheap car insurance for Lennon's Ferrari

Beatle John Lennon, who never needed to worry about obtaining cheap car insurance, bought a blue Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Coupe as his first car after passing his driving test in February 1965. Now the vehicle is due to be sold at auction in Paris.

In the same year, Lennon spent some more of his earnings as one of the world's first musician superstars on a Rolls-Royce Phantom V limousine, which he had painted in psychedelic colours, and a Mini as a runabout.

However, he kept the Ferrari for only nine months when it was listed for sale having a low mileage of only 3,000 on the clock. After passing through other owners, in the mid-1990s it was thoroughly restored to its original specification.

The Ferrari, which cost £2,000 originally, is expected to sell for between euro120,000 and 170,000 at the beginning of February. In view of its history, the new owner is likely to need a specialist car insurance policy to cover its use.
