Man is convicted of negligent driving

An Australian man who caused a multiple car-crash on Warringah Road, Sydney, four months ago will have a difficult time finding car insurance after admitting to driving recklessly leading up to the accident.

The 33-year-old man was responsible for causing head injuries to a toddler due to his negligent driving.

He was charged with five counts of dangerous or negligent driving in relation to the August 21 incident, however he was found guilty solely of negligent driving, with the four counts of dangerous driving being returned as ‘not guilty' verdicts.

Finding a car insurance quote will have been made more difficult for the man as he was reportedly switching lanes constantly, eventually sideswiping a taxi which set off a series of collisions. This caused the car with the toddler to be rear-ended causing the two year old to be pushed up into the car's roof which resulted in serious head injuries, while his mother also sustained fractured ribs.

The man faces a possible jail term of nine months with a minimum one-year disqualification period. In total the accident involved seven cars and resulted in the road having to be closed for several hours.

Drivers in the UK should be aware that a conviction for a dangerous, or reckless, driving offence will carry severe penalties and will mean that many insurers will refuse to offer cheap car insurance.
