Research shows lane changing causes many collisions
In order for UK motorists to find cheaper car insurance they need to be aware of the correct way to undertake lane changes so as to avoid accidents.
According to research conducted between 2009-2011 by Accident Exchange, a crash claims organisation, more than 6% of accidents on British roads are the result of poorly executed lane change manoeuvres, which in turn cause more than £437 million worth of vehicle damage.
This new study also revealed, by analysing 50,000 accidents, that the number of lane change collisions have gone up by 48% in just two years. Car insurance quotes will undoubtedly be affected by the increased number of crashes.
The main reasons for these accidents are drivers who switch lanes without remembering to signal, causing a collision with another car.
Drivers typically cite poor rear and side visibility, as well as admitting to driving without due care and attention, as typical causes.
This research shows that lane change accidents have now reached 152,000 every year. Each accident typically translates to £2,876 worth of repairs. This figure includes the cost of emergency services as well as labour hours from going through garages and insurance companies.
So that drivers can find cheaper car insurance quotes more easily, while also keeping themselves safe, being observant and warning other motorists of their intentions when making a lane change are of great importance.
