Record breaking VW suits cheap car insurance fans

Good news for motorists who want ultra-efficient cars and the cheapest car insurance: auto maker Volkswagen has set the gas mileage benchmark with its latest Passat.

The Passat Bluemotion established a new World Record by travelling 1,526.63 miles on a single tank of petrol - the longest journey ever made by a standard production car without refuelling.

The team behind the attempt set off from Kent, crossed the Channel and made their way to the South of France before turning back, eventually running dry at Calais.

The record is more impressive still considering traffic congestion en route slowed the team's average speed to just 45mph.

"It shows how good modern cars really are," said driver Gavin Conway in a Daily Mirror interview.

"Today's drivers are increasingly concerned with running costs, and for those considering a new car the Passat Bluemotion makes a lot of sense," said a spokesperson from cheap car insurance specialists duck2water.

"However, it's important to bear in mind that other money saving options – such as switching to a cheaper car insurance provider – will most likely serve you better in the short term."
