Cheap cover may be difficult to find for fraudsters

A 'notorious' Glaswegian gangster is unlikely to be able to get the cheapest car insurance quote possible after his insurer delayed settlement for a claim on his Mercedes Kompressor that was allegedly torched by rival gangland thugs.

According to the Scottish Daily Record, the convicted felon put in a claim for £26,000 with his car insurance provider after a petrol bomb was used to damage his car in May, but the cover providers have, as of yet, failed to settle the claim.

After the attack, the second on the car, the gangster vowed to hunt down those responsible.

Various letters have gone between the Mercedes owner and his insurance company, but the insurers insist that the owner is refusing to name those he suspects of the attack and thus, "by failing to disclose this to the police or us this is a breach of policy."

The loss adjuster also said in a letter to the Mercedes owner, "Records held by [the insurance company] show you do not have any claims. You stated the reason was you were living abroad and had just come back. In fact, you were in prison. This is a breach of utmost good faith."

The gangster told the newspaper that he would continue to fight for his insurance claim, but it is unlikely they will be offering cheapest car insurance on his next vehicle.
