Motorists prone to mislaying their car keys

Over half the UK motorists recently surveyed by a company who specialise in comparing the cheapest car insurance admitted to having previously mislaid their vehicles.

Three percent of motorists have called up the breakdown service for assistance in the hunt for their missing cars. Some people have also sought help after locking their keys in their vehicle.

Many desperate drivers have also contacted their chosen breakdown company for assistance after mistakenly filling their car tanks up with the wrong kind of fuel.

Moreover, other motorists have sought help in fitting a new wheel and topping up with oil or engine coolant, even though such information is readily available in most car handbooks.

With regards to forgetting the whereabouts of parked vehicles, women drivers are reportedly the most prone. Some 63% of ladies and 43% of men have made this error.

A car insurance expert said, "This survey just goes to show how much people use and appreciate their breakdown cover, especially when they get themselves in a potentially embarrassing situation.

"Shopping around for breakdown cover by using a website like Confused.com can make it more affordable. Although it's no substitute for remembering where you parked!"

People who are prone to forgetfulness have been advised to invest in the cheapest car insurance which comes with cover for lost or stolen keys and mis-fuelling.
