Motor insurance news - Xmas shoppers urged to guard against thieves and protect motor insurance quotes
Motorists hoping for a cheap motor insurance quote next year will have to be careful about car thieves at Christmas, Saga warns.
Saga, which specialises in cheap car insurance for older drivers, is alerting drivers to the fact that leaving expensive Christmas presents in their car can put their motor insurance quotes at risk.
There are many thieves who target cars that have been left with Christmas shopping in because they know that there are likely to be lots of high value items.
Shoppers are also warned against leaving receipts for goods in the bags with their purchases. This is because if a thief finds a receipt, he/she can then return the goods for cash, which is more useful to him/her than stolen goods.
Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga, warned: "If the car is broken into or stolen, many people could find the personal belongings cover on their policy woefully inadequate."
However, Saga points out that those motorists who have cheap car insurance with them will get up to £2,000 of personal belongings cover over the Christmas period and £1,000 the rest of the year.
