Magazine investigates green motor insurance quotes

Online magazine newconsumer.com has found that Co-operative Insurance offers the cheapest "green" motor insurance quotes, but The Green Insurance Company offers the most eco-friendly car insurance policies.

The magazine carried out a set of research in which four so-called green car insurance companies were compared as to the price of their motor insurance quotes and to the environmentally-friendly features of their policies.

The four companies were Co-operative Car Insurance (CIS), ibuyeco, The Green Insurance Company, and the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which sources its policies from Brit Insurance.

The researchers then got motor insurance quotes from each company based on a 25-year old, female Ford Focus driver who wanted a comprehensive car insurance policy.

CIS came as having the cheapest deal at £515.15, followed by ibuyeco at £561.23 and finally The Green Insurance company at a whopping £1,176.04. Unfortunately the researchers couldn't get an ETA motor insurance quote which could be compared like for like with these other policies.

Green features varied from 100% emissions offsetting from The Green Insurance Company and ibuyeco to 20% offsetting from Co-operative Car Insurance, and an unspecified amount of offsetting from the ETA.
