New scam for ghost passengers

Car insurance buyers are being warned to be aware of false claims made against their insurance for car passengers who weren't involved in the accident being claimed for.

There has recently been much in the news about "cash for crash" scams where drivers deliberately cause non-fault car accidents and then make fraudulent claims against the other driver's motor cover.

However, a new scam has recently arisen whereby accident victims make claims for so-called ghost passengers who were not in the car at the time of the crash, but make associated claims for whiplash injuries amongst other things against the other drivers insurance for car.

A spokesperson for duck2water said, "We advise our customers to be fully aware of all circumstances in the event of a crash. We suggest taking notes and trying to find witnesses to the incident.

"We specialise in cheap insurance for car drivers, but if our customers suspect that the car accident was bogus or injuries have been falsified we will always investigate the claims as fully as possible."
