AA reveals fall in premiums

Finance experts have approved of the competition amongst motor insurance companies, citing this as a reason more drivers are able to obtain cheap car insurance quotes.

According to the AA British Insurance Premium Index, a predicted rise in motor insurance premiums for the first quarter of 2008 did not occur.

In fact, car insurance rates realised a slight fall of £3 from the end of 2007, the average price for comprehensive cover is now £682.

A finance spokesperson commented that the competition amongst motor insurance companies means that large companies have to be more competitive, they can no longer charge what they wish.

However, he urged policy buyers to check the details carefully. He advised drivers to check the "key terms" part of the whole document to know exactly what you have bought.

He added, "What might be a really cheap policy may still offer some really good benefits. It is a case of looking around, looking at what is excluded and at what you need."
