Cover advert leaves women uncovered
The insurance for car business in the UK has long been associated with wacky television advertisements – Salvador Daliesque moustachioed opera singers, Pop twins Jedward, John Prescott even – but insurance for car companies in the UK have somehow managed to resist using salacious images as their main selling point.
But not in Romania, where a recent advert for cheap motor insurance has provoked outrage and, pleasingly for the insurer involved, a huge deal of publicity.
The offending advert features a number of scantily clad models struggling about the screen wearing nothing more than lingerie.
Strangely for an advert that purports to be selling insurance for cars, there is not a single four-wheeled vehicle featured.
In fact, the only vehicle featured, if you can call it that, is a space hopper, which the said scantily clad models hop around on before embracing and, eventually, being handcuffed and led away by a similarly clothed "police woman".
It remains to be seen whether widespread complaints will result in the advert being removed from air.
