Thieves pose cheap car insurance worry for Congleton residents

Cheshire police are urging motorists in the country to protect their cheap car insurance rates by being extra vigilant after a sharp rise in the amount of car crime in Congleton and Alsager.

According to police, Ford vehicles in the two towns have been targeted because thieves mistakenly believe that the stereos in these cars contain a chip that can activate satellite television.

However, it is not only Ford owners that are having to turn to their motor insurance provider after becoming victims of car crime.

Other motorists have lost their cheap car insurance after having property such as sat navs, mobile phones and laptops stolen from their vehicle.

A spokesperson for Congleton Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: "We're experiencing a significant rise in theft from vehicles throughout the borough.

"It only takes a second to remove items being targeted and take them inside your house or place of work. It also only takes a second for a thief to break into your car and steal those items."

"We are devoting considerable resources to tackle this problem, and appeal to the community to assist us. We would welcome reports of suspicious persons seen loitering around cars, especially during the night."
