ABI warns uninsured drivers that they face expensive motor insurance quotes
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is warning uninsured drivers that they could face being given the cold shoulder by cheap car insurance companies if they are caught.
The motoring organisation has said that people convicted of uninsured driving will find that getting any car insurance cover at all will be difficult because they will be considered too high a risk. Even if they can find a motor insurance company who will insure them, a cheap motor insurance quote will be out of the question.
Kelly Ostler, ABI spokesperson, said: "Depending on the insurer, it is very unlikely that you will get any more insurance if you are ever caught driving without any.
"What is certain is that even if you did get insured again, it would cost an arm and a leg."
According to ABI statistics, over one million drivers in the UK - which equates to one in 20 motorists on the road - are risking their future motor insurance quotes by failing to get insurance cover.
Corrine Aldous of duck2water Car Insurance Services said: "Although what the ABI says is true, I'm not sure that warning uninsured motorists about the price of their future car insurance premiums is going to have much effect on their behaviour."
