Online car insurance site slams Direct Line over research findings

The online car insurance quote comparison site Confused.com has criticised Direct Line over claims that it is "one of the UK's most competitive car insurers".

Direct Line recently released research from Deloitte that showed the cheap car insurance company as offering the most affordable motor insurance quotes.

However, Confused.com disputes the claim, saying that the very same research also shows that Direct Line's quotes were cheapest just 8% of the time.

The online car insurance comparison site also criticised the study itself because it did not include many of the other main insurers, such as the Budget Group, Admiral and Saga.

A spokesperson for Confused.com said: "In publicising this report, Direct Line is highlighting the fact that over 90% of customers, and perhaps more, will find cheaper car insurance with other providers.

"What's more, if this report covered 100% of the insurance market, Direct Line would undoubtedly fall below its current 8% for competitiveness."

Direct Line and Confused.com have recently been involved in a rather heated discussion over the usefulness of price comparison sites, with Direct Line claiming that these sites are simply "online middlemen".
