Drink-drivers face legal action for Christmas revelry
Christmas revellers caught drink-driving during the festive season can wave goodbye to any hopes of cheap car insurance - and they risk being sued for accident costs and any third party damages.
With the Christmas season now starting to get in full swing, warnings are being issued by the government and insurance industry to anyone considering drinking excess alcohol and then breaking the law by getting behind the wheel.
Drinking excess alcohol while driving can be a road to ruin with car insurance companies refusing to pay out for damage to vehicles owned by the drink-driver, as well as not paying claims for any personal injuries sustained.
One car cover company - Bell Insurance - part of the Admiral Group, has stated to policyholders that, if they are convicted of drink-driving, no claims will be paid for damages or injuries that they suffer.
While the law requires it to cover the cost of third party claims, it has joined a growing band of insurers that plans to take legal steps to sue drink-drivers and recover any monies paid out. If successful, such action could make premiums paid for cheap car insurance minuscule in comparison.
