Cheap car insurance company reveals UK drink driving beliefs

A survey has revealed that 60% of motorists believe that they are safe to drive after drinking alcohol.

The research, carried out by cheap car insurance company Privilege, found that drivers still feel they know better than the many experts who warn that concentration and judgement are adversely affected by alcohol.

Around 66% say that they feel it is acceptable to drink some alcohol before driving, with 10% even admitting to feeling safe to drive after drinking more than the legal limit.

Kate Syred, spokesperson for the cheap car insurance firm, said: "We are calling for the complete eradication of drink driving and urge motorists to avoid drinking altogether if they know that they're going to be driving.

"Our research indicates that a significant proportion of motorists continue to drive under the influence of alcohol on a regular basis. This is extremely worrying as even a small amount of alcohol can impair a driver's judgement and has been shown to increase the risk of accidents."

Motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol usually face a driving ban for a period of time, as well as vastly inflated motor insurance quotes until the conviction is spent.
