Drivers urged to protect cheap motor insurance quotes in icy weather

Sainsbury's Car Insurance is warning about that large number of drivers that are losing the chance of low cost motor insurance quotes after becoming victims of 'frosting'.

The cheap car insurance company believes that more than 120,000 cars left unattended while defrosting on icy mornings have been targeted by thieves in the last five years.

Cold weather in January has prompted the firm to issue a warning to motorists to be aware of this kind of theft in order to prevent other people from having their cars stolen.

Richard Clarke, manager of Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "Many thieves are opportunistic and will look to steal your car if you leave it running unattended.

"We are concerned that the predicted extreme cold weather will result in more people taking this risk and becoming victims of frosting."

Sainsbury's Car Insurance is also urging drivers to be aware of other aspects of hazardous weather conditions and to take steps, including servicing and regular maintenance, to protect their motor insurance quotes.
