Motorists consider fraud to cut bills
Financial pressures in the economic downturn are leading motorists to consider fraudulent means to reduce the cost of car insurance premiums.
A recent survey of hundreds of drivers discovered only 39 per cent were not prepared to consider lying in attempts to cut bills on insurance for cars.
At the same time, another piece of research revealed that recently there had been many more claims turned down by motor cover insurers than in the past with figures soaring by almost a third in the last six months.
With jobs insecure and insurance bills increasing, it seems inevitable that some people in the UK will attempt dubious ways to keep costs down.
Common frauds include fronting, not notifying insurers about past claims or accidents, supplying false addresses, failing to reveal convictions, or failing to notify insurers about vehicle modifications.
Lying and committing fraud can mean drivers are dropped by car insurance companies. There are also likely to be considerable difficulties subsequently trying to find new, cheaper or even affordable cover.
