Dusters could protect cheap car insurance rates

Gloucester motorists are being urged to protect their cheap car insurance premiums by dusting up after their sat nav devices.

Thieves often look for sucker-marks on the windscreen when trying to find out which cars have sat nav devices hidden inside the glovebox, and target these vehicles accordingly.

Unfortunately, this can mean that even motorists who have removed the device from the car entirely can end up having to make a motor insurance claim for the damage, and lose their cheap car insurance rates.

Gloucestershire Police are hoping that encouraging people to dust away the marks will put an end to this trick.

To this end, 2,500 motorists in the Gloucestershire area will receive free dusters that can be used to remove all evidence of their sat nav.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police said: "By giving out these dusters we hope that people will heed our advice and not be a sucker to car crime."
