Crackdown could affect future motor insurance quotes

Up to 20,000 vehicles have been confiscated from rogue motorists who didn't take the time to get motor insurance quotes and take out a policy.

A major crackdown in Liverpool since 2006 has proved to be extremely successful with a total of 20,000 cars confiscated from drivers who not only didn't have a driving licence but were on the UK roads without car insurance.

One senior traffic policeman said: "Taking 20,000 vehicles off our roads is helping us target a wide range of offenders, including those criminals who actively use their vehicles in the commission of crime.

"It's uninsured vehicles that are most likely to be used as criminal pool cars, with any number of offenders using them for drive-offs from petrol stations, to distribute drugs or to taxi offenders to and from the scenes of crimes.

"By tackling unlicensed vehicles in this way, we're making life difficult for offenders and having a significant impact on associated crimes across Merseyside."

Any motorist caught driving without car insurance could find it very difficult to get an affordable motor insurance quote in the future."
