Motor insurance holders driving clocked cars
Some people with the cheapest car insurance have been told that there is a reasonably high chance that their vehicles have a mileage discrepancy.
After the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) reported that one in 39 vehicles has had its mileage clocks changed, the HPI revealed that the figure is closer to one in 17.
The Automotive Director for HPI, said that car insurance holders with older vehicles aren't the only ones who should be worried about this issue.
"With the tools to adjust mileages so easily available on the web, consumers are just as likely to be the clocking cars as unscrupulous traders," he commented.
"Whilst it is fair to assume that older cars that have been around the block are most likely to have their mileage reading altered, approximately half of all cars we check are revealed as having a mileage discrepancy within the first 3 years of their life," he went on.
Auto Express recently reported that UK motorists have to pay around £100 million every year to deal with problematic clocked vehicles.
In related news, Moneysupermarket.com has said that people seeking the cheapest car insurance may discover a better deal on a car with a recent registration, rather than an old one.
