Your car insurance quote and driving abroad
If you are planning on driving abroad this summer, make sure you familiarise yourself with the local driving regulations to keep your car insurance quote to a minimum. Many motorists take their cars abroad every year without first reading up on the local driving laws, putting themselves and their chances of a cheap car insurance quote at risk.
Despite the obvious difference in road lane usage, foreign countries are likely to have their own speed limits and penalties for traffic offences. For instance whereas in England carrying a high visibility jacket in the car is only advised, in most other EU countries it is a legal requirement.
Motorists should also check their motor insurance policy before driving abroad. Nearly half of motorists questioned by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com did not know if driving abroad would affect their cover. The site found that about half of the companies involved automatically dropped their cover from fully comprehensive to third party or third party fire and theft which would leave motorists at a serious loss if their car was to get damaged abroad.
It is therefore essential to read up on local driving laws to help prevent any accidents and help safeguard a future cheap car insurance quote.
