Drivers support more courses and tests, which could be good news for their motor insurance
Most motorists know that taking optional driving courses such as Pass Plus will net them a cheaper motor insurance quote and many are now supporting a suggestion by the government to introduce a wider range of courses and refresher tests.
Ryder Europe carried out a survey of both private car owners and commercial vehicle drivers to find out their opinions of road safety courses such as these. It revealed a majority of 63% thought the proposals would be a benefit to many drivers and a massive 80% agreed that courses and tests should be made compulsory for commercial drivers.
The managing director of Ryder Europe, Peter Backhouse, said: "It is very interesting that our research found so many were in favour of compulsory re-testing or driver safety courses.
"This goes much further than some of the measures in the new Road Safety Bill and many people believe they could make a real impact in improving road safety," he finished.
Road safety courses could prevent thousands of people getting injured in avoidable car accidents each year. If drivers are considered to have a lower risk of having a crash after they have gone on a course, it could also mean that cheap car insurance companies will be able to bring down the cost of motor insurance quotes.
