Drivers given an insurance quote don't want to see eye doctors

A car insurance quote company recently revealed that a significant proportion of its customers hadn't visited the opticians for more than four years.

They pointed out that the DVLA has imposed strict eye sight requirements on all drivers in the UK. People who are unable to clearly identify a new number plate from 20 metres could have their driving licenses revoked.

The car insurance survey showed that 312 people out of 1,200 had last been to the eye doctors between four and six years ago. While 120 individuals had previously had their eyes checked between eight and ten years ago.

Steve Chelton, a leading insurance expert, said, "Although there is no legal obligation to have a regular eye test, it is a legal requirement to be able to read a number plate from a distance of at least 20 metres.

"Motorists who cannot do this are putting their life and the lives of other motorists in jeopardy.

"Motorists who drive with poor eyesight also increase their chances of having an accident, which will lead to a costly car insurance claims and a possible increase in future car insurance premiums."

People who wish to avoid a raised car insurance quote have been reminded that an accident caused because of poor eyesight may mean that their insurance cover is invalidated.
