Cheap car insurance policies may not cover flood damage

In response to the recent flooding to have struck Britain, motorists are being urged to check whether their cheap car insurance policy covers their vehicle for flood damage.

The online car insurance comparison site GoCompare.com has estimated that a third of UK drivers may not be able to claim on their motor insurance if their car was ruined by floods.

A spokesperson for GoCompare.com said: "Third party or third party, fire and theft policies are low cost and straightforward contracts, but they 'do what they say on the tin'.

"Drivers with these policies will not be covered for flood damage.only those with a comprehensive motor insurance policy will be able to claim for flood damage on their car insurance."

The cheap car insurance comparison provider went on to offer advice to help drivers in flood-hit areas.

It advises motorists to consider moving their vehicles if floods are predicted, but urges drivers not to do so if the floods have already struck, as this could cause further damage to the engine.
