Ford Mondeo given five star safety rating

The Ford Mondeo has triumphed in the Euro NCAP safety tests, gaining top marks for adult occupant safety.

The Mondeo is the latest of the Ford clan to be awarded five stars in the adult safety category, joining the 2004 Ford Focus and 2006 Ford S-Max and Ford Galaxy. Previously, the Mondeo had only been given four stars for its safety features.

A spokesperson for Ford said: "With each new model, our quest is for the ultimate safety performance. This latest Euro NCAP 5-star rating for the new Mondeo is a further validation of our holistic approach to engineering safety into Ford vehicles, and the strength of our Ford Intelligent Protection System.

It wasn't only in the area of adult occupant safety that the Ford Mondeo excelled, gaining a very respectable four stars for child safety.

The spokesperson continued: "It demonstrates emphatically that the work we devote to optimising the safety of Ford vehicles really pays off where it counts in a family car like Mondeo with significant protection for adults and children alike."

However, the Mondeo did come up short in the area of pedestrian safety, only being awarded two out of a possible four stars.
