Ford teams up with police to combat crime

Ford has partnered up with the police in five counties to combat vehicle crime and cut car insurance claims over the Christmas period.

Police in Essex, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Thames Valley and Cheshire will all benefit from a specially-equipped Transit which will help them combat car and van crime.

The Ford is both a mobile security display unit and a crime investigation vehicle which can be used to identify stolen vehicles.

A spokesperson for Ford commented: "We are working in partnership with the police on auto crime prevention, using what we believe is the most secure Transit in the UK. It is equipped with a laminate on the glass which holds the fragments together if broken, and reduces the possibility of entering the vehicle."

An inspector from Essex Police explained why the police had teamed up with Ford for this initiative, saying: "The objective of this working partnership is to reduce the impact of auto crime. We believe that working with companies such as Ford between crime reduction partnership agreements will help take these criminals off the road and reduce their ability to commit crime."
