FSA says cheap car insurance ads getting better

Adverts for cheap car insurance are getting better, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) has said in its review of national press advertising.

January 2007 saw the FSA flag up 45% of motor insurance advertisements as having sales claims which could be seen as misleading.

However, its most recent research has found that most cheap car insurance companies sorted their advertising claims out in the months following the review. A 10-day assessment during April showed that 94% of adverts now comply with advertising regulations.

A spokesperson for the FSA said: "We said in January that firms needed to shape up and fast, so this progress is good to see.

"What really matters now is that standards remain consistently high across print, broadcast and other advertising and we will be watching to make sure that they do.

"In the meantime, consumers should always look beyond headline savings and other claims to ensure that the cover on offer is right for them.

"The jargon-free, impartial information about insurance on our 'moneymadeclear' website will help people get the right deal for them."
