Greener Brits get better car insurance deals
The cheapest car insurance may become easier to find as the message about greener driving finally gets through to motorists.
As well as an increase in the use of public transport, a poll carried out by a car insurance firm has discovered that car sharing has become more popular which is helping to reduce greenhouse emissions and cut the amount of traffic on roads.
According to the survey, 24% of the 3,167 participants said that they are involved in a car sharing scheme which is up from 19% recorded in 2008.
Last year only 14% said they used public transport. However this has now dramatically risen to 23% in 2009.
The managing director of the firm that commissioned the poll said, "This could be down to the recession – by cutting back on car use, you can save a bit of money."
With less traffic on the roads, accident rates are likely to fall as people find alternative and cheaper ways to travel. This should help protect your no claims bonus discount and keep your renewal premiums at a low ensuring that you can find the cheapest car insurance deals.
