Questions raised over cheap car insurance and hydrogen fuel

Big company calls for hydrogen fuel service stations in London have prompted a business to raise questions about potential impact on cheap car insurance.

Internationally renowned brand, Virgin, wants to run hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and is pressing for hydrogen filling stations in the UK capital city.

London mayor Ken Livingstone has been asked by Sir Richard Branson, Virgin chairman, to back the bid for a greener, more environment-friendly city.

Branson's polite demands come as he is working to develop a strategy to use biofuels as a preferred fuel, perhaps replacing oil in the years ahead.

He is already test-running limos in the US that are powered by hydrogen for his well-heeled customers who use the Virgin Atlantic airline.

A spokesperson for Duck2water Car Insurance Services said, "Suppose there is a car accident involving a hydrogen vehicle. It will need to be clear to insurers whether these cars are safer or riskier to drive than petrol and diesel cars.

"We expect development of hydrogen cars to have an impact on cheap car insurance."
