70% of motorists protect cheap car insurance by carrying ice scraper

A survey has revealed that the majority of motorists will be protecting their cheap car insurance rates as we enter 2007 by being prepared for icy conditions.

Researchers from Kia Motors have found that 70% of drivers carry de-icers or ice scrapers to clear their car windows on frosty mornings.

This is quite a high percentage and should go some way to preventing winter morning crashes because many accidents in cold weather are caused by drivers having only partial visibility as they haven't fully defrosted their windscreens.

The survey, which delved into drivers' glove boxes, found that other motorists keep practical items such as a map, first aid kit, torch and blankets in case they break down.

Corrine Aldous, of cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "We are glad to hear that so many drivers are keeping ice scrapers in their car because being prepared really can help to reduce the chance of an expensive motor insurance claim."

The researchers also found a great number of other things in glove boxes, ranging from the expected items such as CDs and tapes to slightly odd ones like dog food and a stethoscope.
