Insurance for car problems on damaged highways

Some motorists in Scotland may have lost the no-claims bonus on their insurance for cars after travelling on highways damaged by the installation of internet cables, it has been reported.

A Roads Authorities and Utilities Committee report found that two high-profile internet providers had a failure rate higher than the average following inspections of parts of road on which cable installation work by the companies had been undertaken.

They could now be liable for fines of up to £50,000 if standards are not improved. Spokespeople representing the company said that they will have communications with relevant authorities to ensure all of the necessary changes are made.

They stated, "We met with the [Scottish Road Works] Commissioner recently and told him that we accept his results, and we have improvement programmes in place to turn our performance around."

The welfare of British motorists is at risk if road surfaces are not safe and the cost of insurance for cars could increase as a result of personal injury claims caused by accidents on damaged roads.
