Got a drink driving ban? You won't get insurance for cars

Any drivers convicted of a drink-driving offence might just find it impossible to buy further insurance for cars, a new report warns.

Many car insurance providers are choosing to refuse to cover anyone who has received a DR10 penalty for driving while under the influence of alcohol and those who do return a quote to drivers with such convictions are likely to raise the price considerably.

According to Moneysupermarket.com drivers could see their cheap car insurance rising from an average of £300 for annual cover, up to £578.

Some car insurance providers will also choose not to insure a driver who has been banned from driving at any time in the five years prior to application.

A spokesperson for duck2water commented, "Trying to find a good deal on insurance for cars will never be helped if a driver is carrying a driving conviction on their licence - and motorists are required by law to tell a potential insurer of all such convictions."
