Insurance for car payments ignored by motoring underclass

Motorists who dodge their insurance for car payments are making it more expensive for honest road users, however, the courts are not punishing them severely enough according to Simon Douglas, the director of AA Insurance.

Mr Douglas has expressed concern regarding the cost for other motorists and their safety on the roads – uninsured drivers are responsible for a significant amount of deaths in the UK every year, killing approximately 160 and injuring 23,000.

Britain has a very high rate of drivers who drive without car insurance, having a higher rate than the majority of European countries. To compare, in Germany only one in every 500 motorists will drive uninsured, however, in the UK the number goes up to 25 in every 500.

Mr Douglas feels that the UK has been too lenient towards uninsured drivers and believes that it is absolutely vital that this motoring underclass respects what a toll they are taking on British roads and road users.

The average fine paid for uninsured driving is fairly low, with the average fine around £200, despite the maximum enforceable fine being £5,000.

Motorists without any insurance for car are not only breaking the law, but they also pose a risk to other drivers and passengers on the roads as well as to themselves.
