Map reading is becoming a forgotten skill
Recent research by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has revealed that many people with insurance for car owners depend entirely on their satellite navigation systems when behind the wheel.
More than two-thirds of people aged under 25 have no idea how to read a map, according to the money saving website. Many youngsters said that they would seek their parents' help, rather than have a look at a road map, if they had a problem with their sat-navs.
Almost half of the novice drivers who took part in the motoring survey said that they had been given incorrect information by the technological devices. However, just 17% had taken the time to learn how to map-read after experiencing such problems.

One of the UK's major providers of car insurance has urged drivers to keep their focus on the road ahead of them, rather than the screens of their sat-navs, to minimise the risk of being involved in accidents.
Technologically savvy motorists have also been advised to keep their sat-navs safely hidden away when leaving their cars unattended. Many insurance for car claims are made every year after thieves steal these gadgets.
