Top end cars targeted by thieves
The cost of insurance for cars is being hit by an increase in thefts of expensive cars, according to new research just published.
Thieves are apparently targeting vehicles of a higher value with the cost of motor cover claims by car owners rising 38 per cent in the past year.
Vehicles that are now stolen tend to be an average of eight years old compared to ten years old back in 2004.
However, numbers of vehicles stolen have dropped in the past couple of years. Research organisers LV= said the figure for total cars stolen has fallen 11 per cent.
An LV= spokesman said, "It would appear that cars being stolen are specifically targeted by thieves who will often break into the owner's property to steal the keys. Many of these cars are then exported to be sold overseas."
For motorists keeping an eye on the rates of insurance for cars, higher-priced vehicles targeted by thieves have included Porsches, BMWs and Jaguars and owners need to stay vigilant.
