Many motorists flee scene after causing bumps in car parks
Car parks in the UK are hazardous places with many vehicles frequently damaged by 'hit and run' drivers who bump cars and then flee the scene.
The problem has highlighted the issue of insurance for cars because minor car park accidents can affect no claims bonuses if drivers must claim on their own policies.
A survey poll carried out by the AA motoring organisation - which has a car insurance arm - revealed four out of five motorists have had their vehicles damaged in car parks.
And just over 11 per cent - about one in nine - motorists confessed they would not own up if they accidentally bumped and damaged a parked car.
Many people who hit other cars in car parks "do a runner", according to the AA. People don't want to admit to causing damage because they are worried that no claims bonuses will suffer if they own up.
As a result, innocent victims of car park 'hit and run' drivers face claiming against their insurance for car policies and seeing quotes and renewals rise.
