Warning for the UK's music festival goers over car thefts

UK festival-goers may not be thinking about insurance for cars when planning trips to Glastonbury and similar locations this summer - but they ought to check their cover.

A recent study has revealed that almost two thirds of motor insurers provide no more than £100 worth of protection for all vehicle contents.

While reading car insurance policies just before heading off to a music festival may not be high on people's priorities, it is worth checking in case the worst happens. Covering the cost of stolen luxury goods is not cheap.

Many tech-savvy partying young people are likely to own mobile phones, expensive sunglasses, ipods and satellite navigation systems - leaving these in vehicles can be an open invitation to thieves.

Comparison site uSwitch carried out the car contents cover research. A spokesman warned, "Our advice to motorists is to check details before getting in the car - that way you can enjoy the music with peace of mind."

The best advice for those attending music festivals is to contact their insurer and check that insurance for cars they plan to travel to events in is adequate for their needs.
