Car insurance quote likely to rise after 75 miles wrong way on motorway

A 71-year-old Italian driver has travelled 75 miles down the wrong side of a motorway, terrifying those motorists travelling the right way, according to reports from the ANSA news agency. This may result in legal charges or an increase in his next car insurance quote.

It took police two attempts to stop the driver, who seemed disoriented. Two officers received injuries in a first attempt, which failed when the driver collided with them and continued on his way. He then collided with a second vehicle a few miles later, without injury.

Police claimed that the motorist, who was travelling home from Bologna to Modena, seemed unaware he was on the motorway. It is not known which motor insurance company he uses, but it is likely that his new car insurance quote will not be as cheap as his last.
