Bad weather prompts cheap car insurance warning
Drivers are being warned that they could lose their cheap car insurance if they do not heed weather warnings from the Met Office.
The extended spell of wet and windy weather in early January 2007 has prompted the Highways Agency to warn motorists of poor driving conditions. In the second week of January particularly, fallen trees and floods were widespread across the UK, resulting in travel havoc.
The Highways Agency issued the following warnings: "Rain and spray reduces visibility and more than doubles the distance to stop.
"Drivers are advised to use headlights and keep well back from the vehicle in front. Water on the road can reduce tyre and makes steering unresponsive."
Motorists were also advised to speed up slowly and brake gently in order to prevent skidding on slippery roads in the statement.
Corrine Aldous, of cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "Every time there is poor weather, we see a flood of motor insurance claims come in from people who have been caught out by the bad road conditions.
"If the weather looks bad, don't risk your safety and your car insurance. Listen to the weather forecast and delay your journey if appropriate."
