Cheap car insurance could rise if vehicle maintenance stopped
With the high cost of road tax and M.O.T.s, and as cheap car insurance is now much harder to come by, it is little wonder that a new car hire survey has found that drivers are putting off their car checks due to the cost.
The survey was conducted by a top car hire comparison website and showed some worrying trends.
Of the 2,300 people questioned in the survey it was found that one in three drivers delayed servicing their cars because of the fear of the bill.
Insurance for cars is ever increasing, resulting in drivers doing whatever they can to keep costs down. One in ten of those queried in the survey said they had switched their insurance from a comprehensive policy to third party fire and theft in order to cut costs.
Furthermore, one in three has gone so far as to buy a cheaper car to try and keep costs low.
With winter being around the corner it is vital that car maintenance checks are done, yet 60% of those asked in the survey said that they do not have their tyres checked, while 80% do not check their brakes.
Putting off car maintenance checks will only cost motorists money in the long run as cheap car insurance will spike if an accident occurs, but the driver runs the risk of suffering a vehicle malfunction which calls for a breakdown service to be called, and if free breakdown cover is not included in their insurance this may also cost them money.
