Jams give boost to low mileage car insurance
Travelling by public transport, rather than using your own vehicle daily, has a number of benefits including being eligible for low mileage car insurance and missing traffic jams which are becoming worse in the UK.
A survey by traffic information company INRIX has found that Wednesday is the worst day of the week for overall congestion and Monday is the worst time for morning jams. Not surprisingly, Friday has the most difficult evening traffic.
It also analysed where the worst bottlenecks were to be found. Manchester drivers were said to spend an average of 72 hours a year stuck waiting on roads and a stretch of the M5 in Birmingham, near where it joins the M6, is the place to avoid on a Friday between 5pm and 6pm when average speed is only 8mph.
Overall, the figures suggest motorists in the UK have to endure more traffic jams than road-users in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Holland. When looking solely at countries' capitals, London is second only to Paris as the most congested city.
If you're a city-dweller, it seems to make practical as well as financial sense to leave your car at home for commuting so that you can qualify for low mileage or PAYD car insurance.
