Eastbourne man fakes cheap car insurance proof

A 23-year-old man has received three convictions after giving police a fake motor insurance certificate from cheap car insurance company Admiral.

Eastbourne police asked to see the man's proof of insurance after seeing him trying to park his van in a space he could not. Their suspicions were aroused by the certificate which supposedly had been issued by the cheap car insurance provider, and he was arrested.

It was soon discovered that the man had searched online for fake car insurance certificates as he didn't want to pay for a full year's insurance.

Speaking at the town's magistrates' court, his solicitor commented: "He could have scouted around and found an insurance provider that supplied policies for less than a year and he realises that this is what he should have done."

He was convicted of two counts of driving without motor insurance and one count of forgery. For these offences he received twelve points on his driving licence, a six-month driving ban and £575 in fines and costs.
