South East England hotspot for breakdowns, says online car insurance firm
An online car insurance company has looked at its own customers to reveal that cars driven in the south east of England are most at risk of break down.
Elephant.co.uk found that the largest amount of call outs its breakdown service received were from motorists waiting by the side of roads going through the south eastern counties.
Drivers in London made by far the most calls for help, with ten times the number calling from the English capital than from Glasgow, which was the second-most likely city for motorists to break down in.
According to the online car insurance firm, Surrey was the county in which most drivers broke down, followed by Essex, Kent, Middlesex and Hampshire.
The motor insurance provider's statistics also showed that it received the most breakdown callouts to the M1, with 30 times the number of drivers breaking down there than on the third-placed M6.
A spokesperson for elephant.co.uk said: "Most motorists will have to deal with their car breaking down at some point, so it's important to make sure that you can get the help you need if anything does go wrong - even if you don't live or drive frequently in the south east."
