World's first electric supercar planned for February 2009

A new era of cheap motor insurance rates may be looming after a car manufacturer has announced plans to build the world's first electric supercar.

As concern for the environment continues to grow, a luxury green eco-friendly driving option for the super-rich would blaze a remarkably carbon-free trail on the journey to a cleaner planet.

Currently, the only sports performance electric car on the market is the British-built £92,000 Tesla Roadster. But now, Shelby Super Cars (SSC) has revealed plans for a 500 brake horsepower-equivalent electric hyper car that is billed to feature "a revolutionary power source" that would need charging only once every several years.

Unveiling plans for the Ultimate Aero EV, the American-based SSC founder Jerod Shelby said, "I think we can do it faster, leaner and cleaner than any other manufacturer."

A prototype is planned for early next year with SSC forecasting February 2009 when it is first shown to the world. Potentially, the Aero EV could achieve 60mph in less than three seconds and a top speed of more than 180mph.

SSC's Ultimate Aero TT - 1183bhp - smashed the fastest production car world record in 2007 when the supercar's speed attempts averaged 256mph. Watch it achieve 256.18mph in this video...

Here at Duck2water, we believe electric cars herald a cleaner, greener future for UK motoring - and the continual search for better cheap motor insurance quotes will not abate once these type of vehicles are a common sight on this country's roads.
