Drivers urged to shop around for cheap motor insurance quotes

Research by American Express has shown that just over 4 in 10 motorists miss out on making savings by comparing cheap motor insurance quotes.

The study revealed that only 57% of British drivers bother searching around for the cheapest car insurance deals when it comes to renewal time.

American Express advises those who want to make savings on their motoring costs to compare a number of motor insurance quotes and to look around online car insurance sites for discount deals.

The company also warns motorists that they may lose their cheap car insurance rates if they get penalty points on their licence.

A spokesperson for American Express Motor Insurance said: "The cost of motoring seems to rise year-on-year and whilst there is little motorists can do to cut the cost of fuel or road tax, insurance is one area where real savings can be made."
