Motor insurance news - Location has huge effect on cost of motor insurance quotes

Research from Moneysupermarket.com has revealed that where you live in the UK can have a huge effect on your motor insurance quotes.

The study demonstrated the price differences by getting a motor insurance quote for a fictional lady aged between 45 and 55.

When a car insurance company was told she lived in Liverpool, they quoted her £2,634 to be insured on a Ford Focus. In contrast, she got a motor insurance quote for just £145 when she gave her address as being in York.

The researchers also got quotes for a male driver of the same age and the same car and a similar pattern was observed. A man would see motor insurance quotes for £2,406 if he lived in Wembley compared to just £143 in Shrewsbury.

Mr Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, explained: "Car insurers look at the rate of car crime, the type of car you drive, your age and whether your area has drivers classed as 'high-risk' or particularly prone to accidents.

"So even [if] you live in an area where the incidence of car crime is low, you could suffer high premiums because of the number of reckless drivers in your town."
