Motorcyclist proposes new road safety idea
A man who had a serious motorcycle accident is urging car drivers to improve their road safety by learning to ride motorbikes.
Geoffrey Squibb, 36, believes that experiencing poor road conditions on a vehicle as vulnerable as a motorcycle will help car drivers to get a better understanding of how to drive safely.
If motorists are more aware, it should reduce the accident rate and mean that fewer drivers have cause to claim on their cheap car insurance policies after an unnecessary crash.
Mr Squibb, of Porthleven in Cornwall, suffered paralysis from the chest down when he was involved in an accident with a car in 1990.
He said: "Car drivers don't appreciate how hard the road is. A car makes you feel more comfortable and safe whereas a bike makes you feel vulnerable.
"That's how accidents happen," he finished.
Corrine Aldous, of cheap car insurance firm duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "As well as making car drivers more cautious of bad road conditions and protecting their motor insurance rates, it could also help car drivers to see the road from a motorcyclist's perspective.
"The motorcycle accident rate is extremely high in the UK and any steps we can take to bring it down must be positive."
