Thieves posing risk to cheap car insurance quotes at service station

Greater Manchester police are warning motorists to look after their cheap car insurance quotes by not leaving any valuables in the car while they are visiting motorway services.

The warning comes in the wake of a series of thefts from a service station off the M62, Birch Services. Cars appear to have been targeted for their contents and motorists have lost sat nav systems, mobiles and iPods.

The police have been alerted to 33 thefts from the Birch Services car park so far in 2007, and believe that more motorists will be left to turn to their motor insurance companies if they do not take better precautions against thieves.

A Rochdale crime reduction officer commented: "I would urge all motorists who own valuable items like sat-navs, iPods and mobiles to take the time to remove them when leaving vehicles unattended. Just hiding them is not always effective, as thieves know where to look.

"Because thieves are opportunistic, they will look for sucker marks on windscreens to see if vehicles are likely to contain sat navs, and will then break in to see if the device is hidden in the glove compartment."

He went on to advise motorists to keep their cheap car insurance quotes safe and sound by ensuring that all the windows are closed and the doors are locked when leaving the vehicle.
