1 in 5 only get one car insurance quote

One in five motorists could be paying more than they have to for their motor insurance because they don't bother shopping around for car insurance quotes, according to Sainsbury's Car Insurance.

Research by the insurer reveals that whilst most of us get several motor insurance quotes to find which is the cheapest, 20% of motorists just get the one car insurance quote and stick with that.

When asked why it was that they had not searched around any further, 12% said that they did not believe they could get a cheaper car insurance deal elsewhere, while a further 11% said that they simply couldn't be bothered. Other reasons included finding the car insurance comparison process too stressful or too time consuming.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's Car Insurance said: "Sticking with your renewal quote or the first one you get may be tempting, but it really is essential to shop around. In such a competitive market motorists hold the trump card and should take advantage by shopping around for the best deal, making sure they get quality cover whilst keeping premiums low."

The UK motor insurer went on to recommend that motorists get more than four car insurance quotes in order to get a good idea of what is on offer and what they should be paying for a policy.

The Sainsbury's Car Insurance spokesperson finished: "These days you can get online quotes in minutes so it doesn't have to be an arduous exercise."
